Media Statement

The GST Start-Up Assistance Office is aware of the contents of the Privacy Commissioner’s media release concerning the incident with the GST Assist website Registered Supplier database in June this year.

The Office takes this incident very seriously. Full corrective measures were taken immediately the Office became aware of the unauthorised access to the GST Assist website. The Privacy Commissioner in his media release has confirmed the adequacy of these corrective measures and has acknowledged the promptness of the action to rectify matters.

The GST Start-Up Assistance Office notes that no registered supplier suffered any commercial disadvantage through this incident.

The Office also notes the Privacy Commissioner’s view that appropriate protection measures are now in place.
